I just have to make this I think.
I love the smell of oranges; I just wish I didn't throw out a heap of them last week that had gone funny in the fruit bowl.
I bought them the week before and before I knew it they'd all shrivelled up and went brown in patches.
I don't know why.
I still have a kilo or two left in the bowl so I think I might make orange roast chicken tomorrow to have an excuse to use the peel!

Homemade cleansers are on my list of things to try in the next month or so. I love orange scented cleaning products. I imagine that a homemade product would smell better than anything I've tried in the past.
ReplyDeleteHi Dear, I have made this cleaner after reading about it on the Down to Earth Forum. I made up two lots one with orange and mandarin peels, and the other with lemon and lime peels. Both batches came out lovely and they work really well. After I strained the liquid off, the peels still looked like they could be used again, so I refilled the bottles with more vinegar. They are probably ready to be strained again now. Will have to add that to my list for today.

Hi Barefeet - I made my orange roast chicken last night and The Groom didn't even bat an eyelid when he saw me peeling the skins with the peeler. He is getting used to me now I think! The peels of 4 oranges are sitting in their vinegar jar on the window sill as we speak.
ReplyDeleteDeb - I was wondering how long the peels can be re-used for. I was thinking 2 or 3 times? I was eyeing off the mandarin this morning thinking how I'd need to eat it just for the skin :) I plan to do a lemon one too. I worked today and The Princess stayed with the neighbour as she is sick, so it's spaghetti on toast for us for tea tonight. And a heap of oranges for vitamin C!

Nooooooo, you are giving me serious-heavy-duty-citrus-tree-envy...here in the UK citrus trees, well, we basically forget it & just buy citrus fruit loose from a shop...(am stomping off in a huff now to sulk in the autumnal nightime drizzle!)
